Data Scientist – AI Evaluation And Analytics

Job Description

Apple is seeking a Data Scientist – AI Evaluation & Analytics to help evaluate, measure, and improve the quality, reliability, safety, and performance of AI-powered products, including Large Language Models (LLMs), Apple Intelligence, search systems, and conversational AI. This role combines advanced data science, experimentation, statistical analysis, and AI evaluation to develop scalable frameworks that ensure AI systems deliver accurate, trustworthy, and user-centric experiences. Similar roles are actively being hired within Apple’s AI evaluation organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Design evaluation frameworks to measure AI model accuracy, reliability, safety, and business impact.
• Develop benchmark datasets, evaluation metrics, and testing methodologies for LLMs and generative AI systems.
• Analyze AI model performance using statistical methods, A/B testing, and experimentation.
• Evaluate hallucinations, bias, toxicity, fairness, and response quality in AI-generated outputs.
• Build automated analytics pipelines using Python, SQL, and distributed data processing tools.
• Partner with ML Engineers, Research Scientists, Product Managers, and Software Engineers to improve AI products.
• Monitor production AI models and identify quality degradation or performance issues.
• Perform root-cause analysis and recommend model improvements based on evaluation findings.
• Create dashboards and executive reports to communicate AI quality metrics and insights.
• Support Responsible AI initiatives by developing governance metrics and model validation processes.
• Research emerging AI evaluation techniques and implement industry best practices.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
• 4+ years of experience in Data Science, Machine Learning, or AI Analytics.
• Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, Pandas, NumPy, and Scikit-learn.
• Experience evaluating machine learning or LLM-based applications.
• Solid understanding of statistics, hypothesis testing, experimentation, and predictive analytics.
• Experience working with large datasets and cloud-based analytics platforms.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
